Before going to class, the most important step – with us- is organizing materials and students. We always maximizes amount of time available for instruction basing on the syllabus and my experience. We build up strategies to motivate students for learning and determine maintaining supportive environment.

2. INTENSIVE LANGUAGE COURSE:

The Vietnamese Language Program at the Journalism foreign Language Center  offers three levels of language training in Vietnamese from elementary to advanced, and a course of independent study.

With Elementary and Intermediate level, each level has 3 stages (Lower – Fair – Upper) – And each stage comprises 80 hours (2 credits) of classroom instruction, included mid-term test and final test each stage.

With intensive course, Students must attend class 4 hours a day and finish every stage in 4 weeks.

All four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) are important components of the course. Elementary and Intermediate Vietnamese courses focus on topics dealing with daily aspects of Vietnamese life. Advanced levels explore various issues in modern society through different types of reading texts.

3. STUDY TOURS PROGRAM

In order to help students improve their Vietnamese language skills and understand more of Vietnam - the country, the people, and the culture - the Center of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language can organize “study tours” according to students’ requirements, including activities such as visiting scenic locations within Vietnam, heritage areas, craft villages, and homestays with local people.

4. EXCHANGE CULTURE PROGRAM

This program offers an opportunity for academic study of the language, history and culture of pre-modern and modern Vietnam. No previous Vietnamese language study is required.

Students will participate in cultural excursions to the fascinating cultural treasures of Saigon, the Mekong Delta area and other cultural and historic sites. Excursions to Central and Northern Vietnam can be arranged as options.

Cultural exchanges will be one of the most important activities by which foreign students can meet and exchange experiences with Vietnamese Universities. Week-long homestays will be arranged to acquaint foreign students with the daily life of Vietnamese: meals, entertainment activities, family relationship, etc.

As an option, students may substitute some hours of Vietnamese instruction with additional organized cultural tours. However, at least 60 % of the time must be devoted to the Vietnamese language classes to ensure a threshold ability in the Vietnamese language to integrate with daily life experiences.
